Status update on TDC and IC

Two news for you:

1. First chapter of TDC is completed. I’ll upload the remaining parts on a regular basis, it would be boring if I just give you the whole story at once, wouldn’t it? πŸ˜›

2. ICΒ² 1.96 is coming out soon-ish. You don’t need to start mashing your F5 Keys yet (for those who still have functional ones), could take a few more days.

    Am I right to assume that 1.96 will fix the most annoying (totally my own opinion, though πŸ™‚ ) bug, which causes some errors with the energy grid on world reloads? You know, the one that causes the storage devices or generators to stop sending EUs to machines (link to the forums:

        Me too. Fixed it by rotating some bat-boxes and mfsu’s around, then setting them back how they were. still annoying as balls, but least i know how to fix it now.

          You know that happened to me today… Luckily my system is very simple for once. Lol playing around with red power 2 enough said :p

      Well, fixing it is very simple. Sometimes it’s enough to just press the redstone button on the storage unit cycling until ‘nothing’ displays. If that doesn’t do the trick, destroying a cable and reconnecting it back is sure to fix the whole connected network. πŸ˜‰

      But in my world 4 quarries work constantly, powered by electric engines supplied with nuclear power. Then there are some forestry contraptions also powered by electricity. No to mention UU-Matter farm with recycler combo. πŸ˜‰

      Every reload I have to start by checking each of those power grids so that it doesn’t clog up because of energy lack. It only takes 2-3 minutes or so, so it’s not a big deal, but it is quite annoying. πŸ˜‰

      So I really hope this bug is squished without mercy. πŸ˜€

    Also, i need to know, are the [s]totally deadly defensive turrets aka[/s] “Special Projects” going to be added?

    Because you see, we have some leftover people from the “Agriculture Day 343 Incident” that i think would gladly be volunteered to test them :3

    i hope he will add some new stuff like a cool down system to the nuclear reactor like you do irl πŸ˜› ^^ i next patch πŸ˜› i know it not going to happen πŸ˜› like cooling pipes into a nuclear reactor and make some steam engien to run on hot steam ^^ πŸ™‚

    Alblaka, does Luminator’s hitbox have to be full block? I’m Constantly breaking it by accident, which is pretty annoying. Maybe you could change it with upcoming update, if possible? πŸ™‚

        Well, considering the fact that they have different shape depending on direction, I thought this might have something to do with them being full blocks.

      It’s much more us being lazy, I guess. Or the fact we finally fixed Jetpacks for SMP :3
      1.96 is a bugfix update currently in closed beta testing.

      2.0 will have something more. Eventually, but not guarantueed / limited to:
      -Reactor API

    -quick idea about AlBos-
    i know it isnt likely to appear in an ic2 update soon, but i still think its a good idea.
    but i’d rather see a completely different computer than what computercraft/redpower computers are. computercraft offers an easy programming platform to control redstone/automate stuff(turtle)/and even simple networking.
    redpower offers a PERFECT copy of an early age computer, specially designed to work with redpower wires and frames.
    what i think ic2’s computer should do is offer a powerfull yet limited platform for reactor/energy management to allow making more complicated energy networks.
    it would be amazing to see something like this in ic2 in the near future, but for me bugfixes are more important than new things (that most likely bring more bugs).

    great work, thumbs up for the ic2 team.

    Have to admit I’ve been neglecting IC2 in my play world due to the energy net bugs. No expansion at all since 1.95 came out and I never bothered to recraft all my tools after dying horribly to a pack of creepers in a dark tunnel miles from my base. Been mostly using Thaumcraft stuff instead.

      I mostly just use nano/quantum armor and nano saber, which, btw, should really have a quantum upgrade… anyways, i find myself either using pickaxe of the core or dark matter pick. and defiantly the axe of the stream for wooding.

      Mostly because i find that, and this includes the nano saber, that the tools take up too much energy, and the armor takes up too little, i can sit in lava for a good 10 minutes before my nano armor starts getting into the red zone, perhaps even longer, while my nano saber can only be left on for like, 5 minutes worth of fighting before i gotta take out my lap pack to recharge it.

    IC2’s devs are REALLY killing us with the waiting, considering this is supposedly just a bugfix update. Something is fishy about this. I hope everything is okay with them IRL!

    I have a small suggestion. I don’t care if it takes 5 months but even my users are as bad as the kids on here. Accept if I ban them I will have no players left Al and the users you have not banned on here are to smart to join my server hehe.

    Maybe just do a updates thread and then troll them with the same copy/paste as before haha. No but a thread on just reassuring that things are still going and such or if there not even. It helps bring more confidence in people.

      Agreed. The last mention of any sort of progress was May 27th. Even just a post that says “still a few more bugs to crush before a release” would be kind.

      On a side note… Alblaka, you seemed a lot more active on this blog when you were in school. It could be because now that it’s summertime, more people have bundles of free time, so this waiting seems that much more excruciating.

    Just wanted to add my two cents (of European currency, mind you).

    While I didn’t check the forums at all (shame on me!), I wonder if the reason for not getting an update lately be caused by devs waiting for MC 1.3 and the official API?

    Isn’t the MC 1.3 update going to be released any day now (valve time)? πŸ˜‰
    I’m intrigued by the new stuff 1.3 brings, but then again, I’d really hate to have to start over on a fresh map. Not to mention to wait for the mod devs to release compatible versions…

    Thoughts, anyone?

    Hey, question about one of the bugs. Will the whole “plants become invisable” in servers be fixed in 1.96?

      Thats no IC2 bug, the server you are playing on has probably a Multiworld plugin installed.. Not matter wich of them it uses, they break Crops and Thermal Monitors for SMP.. Remove it and all will work perfectly again.

            I was almost ecstatic when I saw the 1.96 release on the wiki. The missing download link and later the redirect to 1.95b dropped my mood a bit. I hope we don’t have to wait another one and a half months for the release…

      I was actually going to suggest that too after hearing that comment. It would be rather neat to see a device that absorbed lightning during a storm. How much EU would a lightning bolt be?

      1.96 is primarily a bugfix update. The ports to the 1.2 versions came almost instantaniously, were quite unstable and added more bugs with every update. It was just time to fix everything which is also why it took so long. 2.0 is expected to add new content as stated by Al’ in an earlier comment
