Progress Update

So, felt like giving you a short sitrep reguarding the whole situation.

First and foremost, my holidays are past, university started again and there’s loads of other stuffs to do. Will try to keep up some IC² developement though.

The whole dev team is currently working on three things:

1.  A Super-Secret project currently even unknown to the beta-testers. Won’t reveal much more until it’s near completion, though.

2. Gonna rewrite the Albos-Parser to a different concept, causing it to be more mighty. Realised the current implementation couldn’t possible do what the whole system is meant to do. It will probably turn out like a less complex version of Java itself. Variables, methods and returns will definitely be a part of it.

edit: Rewrote the basic code i had. Now Albos fully supports part-wise parsing and methods with return statements. Only left to implement are the base commands and the library parsing. And the GUI, of course…

3. Of course we’re working on bugfixes as well. Stupidly there are LOADS of it… and Iwould dare to claim most are caused by MC’s unflexible and buggy base engine.

Anyways, stay tuned :3

PS: Any attempts in trying to make me leak informations regarding #1 will either cause me to NOT answer or to deny whatever crazy idea you suggested to prevent hypes. If i notice your comment at all, that is, thus not-answering could as well have no specific meaning.

Nice news man, but as you mention in the pre-text before even 1., Uni’s back, so of course we would expect you to do your main work on the education! So you can go out and earn cash, and hopefully still want to fiddle around with IC2, when that time comes !

    • Alblaka says:

Btw, Bremen University grants 7 years of free education to any student :3 Thus i merely need to pay 250€ each half-year for organization fees and a train ticket.
Money luckyl isn’t an issue. Even less since i could actually pay this fees solely with my IC donations XD

      • Maeyanie says:

More countries should have a system like that.

        • Alblaka says:

Not country related :3 It’s just THIS one, afaik.

Kinda long story, but due to many Bremish (if that’s even a term) people studying in other universitys they once added the clause to grant every inhabitant of Bremen 7 years of free studying.
A few years ago someone sued them for “discrimination against people, based on their birth place”. Succeeded, now they were forced to grant it to everyone XD

  2. Az01 says:

oh, #1 secret is not important for now, we just want AlbOS, btw.

    IT COULD BE A BOAT!

  4. Bajt says:

How about to name the OS alBIOS?

  5. Remuthra says:

    Walrus 😀

  6. Andrew says:

hey alblaka i had a suggestion (the placeable fuel one) did you deny the suggestion in the end or is it the last on the list

  7. klopero says:

Well, i could easily say that we got a golden age of modding ongoing right now in minecraft! Remeber chaos at the beggining? Only new items new armor mods. And look at modding scene now. Just wow.

    • Alblaka says:

      Jup.
And if Notch doesn’t get Mojangs butt moving at the same pace, we will soon have a few independent MC versions running parallel to the original one. Or ahead of it, more likely.

  8. You might want to fix your status. ^^

“1. A Super-Secret project currently even unknown to the beta-testers. Won’t reveal much more until it’s near completion, though.”

DRAGONS! Haha, I knew it! :p

  10. Joe says:

The secret feature is a casino, with black jack and girls. Obviously.

  11. andrew says:

by the question i mean the whole placeable fuel suggestion

  12. dragoone 34 says:

i know what the secret update is….

    its vechi…*alblacka zaps with tesla*

    *cough* never mind….

  13. dragoone 34 says:

if i remember correctly you said on the forums that you had a basic vehicle code ready and that if you dropped the computers you might work on that instead.

actually we really need a good form of water transportation other that the Q-suit
    ans electric boat perhaps?

  14. Pregnant platypus says:

Maybe we can get cargo planes pimped out with solar power wings too >w>

  15. Union says:

I worry, though, about the heavy EU requirements of T4… But I’m guessing you have some solution to that?

Also, have you considered also fitting some of the Rocket Science Add-on into the next Tier as part of IC’s base? I hear its got a solid model for nuclear fusion and such…

    • Rgamer says:

The nuclear fusion is pretty solid, yes. It is lower risk, lower reward than the fission reactor, and costs a bit more (8 reactor chambers), as well as the needed components. On the other hand, fuel is essentially infinite, basically 4X your supply of tin.

    • Alblaka says:

I’ve got my own T4 designs for Fusion Reactors.

Compare the complexity of the Nuclear Reactor to the complexity of the normal base generator.
That’s about the difference from my Fusion Reactor idea to the current Nuclear Reactor :3

      • Rgamer says:

Geez…. Please tell me it at least has higher minimum power output…

        • Alblaka says:

I can tell you it has a minimum INPUT of a casual Mark II Nuclear Reactor.

          • DaeDroug says:

Some ideas i posted on that addons thread tat seem relevant here:

I have been a big proponent of generators like fusion needing some pretty extensive external setup from the actual block.

First things that come to mind that you could do is building an external longitudinal and latitudinal copper coils out of copper blocks. Obviously then you’d need to look into how to program the entity that would be the Plasma spinning around in it and could probably do some cool stuff with being able to visually show how hot the plasma is. As well you could have it produce more energy and need more fuel depending on how big you make the magnetic coils and how well built they are. For example, Square coils would be easier and still working but not able to produce as much energy compared to a well built more circular coils.

Another kind of nifty thing you might be able to do is shielding it from sending out damaging waves by surrounding the whole thing with Reinforced Stone or some other shielding material, maybe even have it erode over time so that every once and awhile you have to shut it down and rebuild the shielding.

This way you would also be able to have the heating Coils be actual blocks that you have to figure out how to situate them in the field to make them most effective while still being able to wire them up to whatever power and any redstone controls.

The final thing that I can think of is having a way to make it so that the power produced doesn’t come from the field directly but from a water system that you have to set up to flow through it, heat up, and then passing over a watermill/special turbine before passing back through the plasma field again. Something similar to BuildCrafts liquid pipes except able to somehow react to the heat generated by the plasma to move the water through it faster the hotter it is.

My main point is that this is a Fusion reactor, it should be a big endeavor to not only create the technology to accomplish it but as well to build the big ass structure that it aught to require.

I think that I should be happy with the new Albos operating system. Wait! unless… MIGHTY DRAGON MODERATOR ANSWER MY CRY: Will Albos have the capability to turn evil, build a robot, download it’s self into that robot, and then proceed to kill you, take control of your base, and take your resources in an attempt to build an army of robots and take over the world? That would be terrible! But still pretty awesome. Robots made out of a suit of quantum armor and advanced circuits that could do things for you and be run by the Albos system. (but if they get struck by lightning they will turn against you!)

    • Alblaka says:

Now, sounds like a viable idea for some sort of hyped NPC, i guess ^^

      • andrew says:

Sounds cool but complex im actually wondering, Alwill you under any circumstance put in dragons

      • Withmyself64 says:

So Alblaka, I have an idea for Albos. I think it is a very good one but I am not saying that you could possibly have it in the next update (or the next one). There should be some sort of track block that a mechanical arm-like apparatus is attached to and can move along the track (which has to be placed on the ceiling.) This arm can break and place blocks, also use devices like crafting tables, furnaces, and all the others. This arm is how Albos would interact with you and the environment. You could also program Albos to say, build a wiring set up that if you pulled a switch all of your devices would be flooded with power and explode. (they won’t get to MY giant 5 by 5 block of copper that I have in my base.)

        • Withmyself64 says:

Oh and it would use the tracks and the materials that was available in chests to do this. And maybe if there was not enough materials it would move its arm down the track you placed all the way down to your mineshaft and mine for more materials, or request for you to get materials, or send a robot out to gather the rubber or copper necessary.

        • Alblaka says:

This would be quite some pain to code.

          • Withmyself64 says:

Yeah I guess. But it would be awesome! How about you issue some sort of challenge for modders on the forums to work together in order to make robot mobs and that other stuff?

  17. ithkul says:

Ic2 has so much content. but lack some challenge. may i suggest to add something that makes the enviroment more deadly after a period of time?

  18. Drashian says:

The secret project is electric cacti. There, I said it.

  19. John says:

I’ve got an idea. How about different tiered computers? The first tier of computers uses low resources but is enormous and needs lots of energy. They also have lower amounts of functions. The next tier of computers are smaller, cost more but use less energy and can perform more functions. The next tier will be only one block big, cost more resources and use less energy. The extra tier is supercomputers. They are extremely fast and can perform lots of applications simultaneously. The downside is that they are enormous and use lot of energy. Comment if you agree.

  20. klopero says:

I hope Al will not take the ideas to nerf Solars seriously, everything is balanced as it is and solars are very expensive to make. If people whining about lag on servers here’s my answer. I run small server for friends and it got terribly laggy when arrays started to grow, but then AN INDUSTRIALL EFFICIENCY APPEARS. There problem solved.

    • Rgamer says:

Honestly? I wouldn’t mind there being some kind of damageable item in the top slot, as long as it was around the cost of a carbon net. Not too cheap, but not too expensive either.

    • Alblaka says:

Solar will be nerfed slightly to discourage people from spamming them all over the place. IC² is meant to be an SMP-mod as well, and currently Solar is one of the “easiest” energy generation concept, creating vast lag to servers however.
Would much more love people to set up 20 nukers instead of 2000 Solar Panels.

      • klopero says:

So how you gonna nerf them? Sorry for bothering you but i want to be prepared 😉

        • Alblaka says:

Not 100% decided yet, but probably the recipe will be altered to the old one (2 circuits instead of 2 cables) again and eventually i will add the “dust” feature, causing Solar panels to slowly produce less EU over time, requiring players to run across their solar fields cleaning them.
As well i think about adding code similar to crops, causing solars to break if walked upon.

  21. Hugsim says:

Al, Have you looked into the idea of buying fraps and do previews of the new updates?
