Back from Harz

Aloa everyone and a happy new year.

Back from ‘Torfhaus’, the center of Nature Reserve Harz (a mountain region in mid-Europe). Quite a nice vacation, lots of snow and stormy air there :3

University starts in 40 hours, enough time to get back into casual-day planning. Gotta take a look at IC² somewhen, had some nice new inspriations for stuff.

Yay! The Gibblcannon is coming! Hayooo!

  2. Sir Pickles says:

    We require moar lazorz

    Lol

But anyways, Albaka, it’s time to address an important matter….

Industrialbots. The utility mobs of Industrialcraft.

Mainly ones that serve beer… xD

Well, I hope you all had a happy new year. Guess I better get back to work on my plan to enslave humanity!

    • Alblaka says:

Meh, AI is a pain to code. Even more in MC.

      • Sir Pickles says:

Lol, but where there is a will, there’s a way!

Which means if there’s an Albaka, there’s 5 ways and a chocolate milkshake 😀

Albaka, interesting thought? Having two tesla coils about 3 blocks apart but the same height and it’s a straight 3 blocks. If you supplied it with enough electricity, wouldn’t it beagle to create a wall or at least a line of lightning between the two?

        Just a thought…..

For wall luminators, may I suggest putting like a wall behind them in the model, so when we place a luminators on the wall, it looks like it’s on reinforced stone?

Well, anyways, gotta get back to work now! Type ya later!

    wtf? snow in germany?
i live in Hamburg and we could go in normal pants outside….

I actually have a lot of cool ideas i’d like to see in IC2… just not sure where to sugest (i’d rather not go to the forum) anyways, i think i’ll leave some of them here.

first of all, replacing ”refined iron” with steel. actual machines are made of steel.
Steel could be made by mixing 8 iron dust to 1 coal dust. Also, steel gear would be nice, an intermediate between iron a diamond.
Since you’d be using even more coal dust in IC2 recipes, steel could use charcoal dust instead.
Charcoal dust could not be used to make any diamonds, since it’s not the kind of pure carbon that fossil coal is, but it is good enough for steel. Perhaps even carbon plates, your choice.

Also, there is another industrial type network you could use. Hidraulic oil.
Using some random recipe i havent even thought of, you could make hidraulic oil.
Hidraulic oil would be pumped into hidraulic pistons through hidraulic oil pipes (either made of steel or rubber, steel ones being able to stand higher oil pressure).

Hidraulic pistons, being highly industrial, could extend farther than regular pistons. For example, 5 blocks. But that would require higher pressure in the hidraulic oil pipes feeding it, which means the pump would consume more EU, and you’d have to have more oil stored in your oil reservatory in order to bring up the PU (Pressure Unit) count.

This leads to the third part. Welding torch. You place steel blocks together, and then weld them. Welded steel blocks cannot be removed unless you unweld them from the same side you welded them in the beginning. Also, welded steel blocks move together, but can only be moved by a powerful hidraulic piston. (there’s more to it, i’ll just stop here)

Another much discussed thing i’d like to see is stationary guns, but I wont talk about that right now.

I’d like to know your opinion [Alblaka’s].
If possible, I would like some form of private communication with you, like emailing, skype or msn. As a Computer Engineering student I believe I may possess some valuable ideas / knowledge to be helpful.

One more thing, I think I know how you could integrate your mod with BC and RP, without merging code into a maintenance nightmare.
You create an API, the three of you (or 2 of you, since RP doesn’t have much to integrate with IC2), and by API I mean a bunch of interfaces with no code at all. Then each one creates it’s part of the code, independently. That would mean each one could use functions deep in each other’s mod core without needing to know how that works, and you can maintain and update the code without interfering in the other part, as far as interface and class names keep the same.
Also there may be some flaws in this concept, but I believe you can make something out of it.

    Keep up the great work.

    • Offboss says:

As for the last part, RP pretty much makes BC obsolete. In addition to this, it has it’s own power network and it is making a CPU as well. RP and IC are very similiar and there has been a lot of fuss over Eloraam “copying” other mods.

      • Bluehorazon says:

Not that much and not in every direction. IC2 and Redpower get along well. Eloraam also want to provide a combatibility bridge between Redpower and IC2 (power converters, UUM-Recipes for Nikolite, Silver and Tungsten etc.).

So basically IC2 doesn’t have a problem with redpower. She dont want to touch some things. She originaly wanted powered tools too, but promised alblaka not to implement them (but she might implement some kind of weapon and maybe we could even use it with the batpack/lappack).

BC goes into another direction. SpaceToad improved the building-part of Buildcraft with 3.0 again. And the gates also could be used with RedBus. Having a little bit of rivalry seems to benefit all 3 mods. And in the end, we as players benefit because we have 3 cool mods to play with. And if the modders like each others mods they will come along quite good.

PS: The IC2-combatibilty modul could even include coverable cables.

“first of all, replacing ”refined iron” with steel.”

Refined Iron is steel in the Ore-Dictionary, I guess you could rename it yourself (IC2 should have language-file).

If we are up to suggestions… I like a grappling hook (I guess it is hard to make one, but it would be cool *g*).

        • Sir Pickles says:

SDK has that. He’s the next one on the list to update.

(he was always part of the combo, we just don’t hear from him much lately. I’m kinda surprised Aether updated before him, at least he got to 1.8 xD)

So yeah. In the meantime, you’ll have to make do with Jetpacks, blue Aether clouds, and Ariel Faith Plates. And creative fly mode.

    • Sir Pickles says:

BC has transport pipes, auto builders, quarries, auto crafting tables, and more. The only thing that red power can take over are the redstone engines…..

      • Rgamer says:

And the transport pipes… and there’s a plan for an automatic crafting system last time I checked. For almost all purposes, now that Sorters are implemented, Tubes are better than pipes, because they send items to the closest valid inventory, and won’t even try invalid ones, meaning that if you have several cobblestone storage chests (Okay, more like several dozen), all cobble will go to the closest one first, filling it up, then proceeding to the next furthest, etc. , reducing objects in pipes, and thus entity lag.

As for Quarries, I don’t like them. I hate the enormous holes they make in the ground, although I don’t mind digging my own ones starting fully underground.

Glad you had a nice time in the mountains. Would love a photo update of these things!

I’ve had a great break on our IC2 Server. Thanks 😀

  6. Bluehorazon says:

Actually don’t think of the Harz as “mountains” it’s more like large hills :P. The largest of this Hills is the “Brocken” (really we do have a mountain which could be translated into “chunk”), which is only 1.141 m high. It was former known as “Blocksberg” and it was said that witches celebrated there… whatever witches celebrate…

But it’s quite nice there. And it is an important place in german history. Before 1990 the frontier between the GDR (german democratic republic, eastern germany) and the FRG (federal republic of germany, western germany) went right through the Harz and both sides build a radar and other military installions on nearby mountains. Only the western germany buildings are remaining and are called “Brockenwarte”. They are now used to messure weather conditions etc. Also the relative height was used to transmit western television-programs into eastern germany. But enough about history 😛

  7. oodain says:

    harzen is a wonderfull region,

i especially liked the old mine we went to there, nothing like the feel of actual mineshaft 😛

    any spoilers?

  8. Dirk Schut says:

If you are trying to explain the history of germany, at least use the German terms: BRD(Bundes Republik Deutschland (Federal Republic Germany)) and the DDR(Deutsche Democratische Republik (German Democratic Republic)) 🙂

    • CommisarCain says:

Because those term make it more accessible?

      • Bluehorazon says:

No, but germans don’t know what GDR and FRG means, because they only know the german words 😛

But thats why I added eastern and western germany.

    • Rgamer says:

And I start hating the French even more for when they invaded England. If not for them, I could be speaking German, which is an awesome language. Actually, so would the rest of America.

For those of you who are unaware, English is primarily a composite of German-derived Anglo-Saxon tongues and Norman French. However, I understand that the aforementioned Anglo-Saxon tongues were pretty similar to Low German of the time (Modern German comes from Low German).

And yes, this stuff sticks in my brain better than how to do a implicit derivative….. It annoys me to no end.

    are you from Germany?
