THE FLOOD IS INCOMING

No seriously, i’ve had more comments on my last blogpost within the last 24 hours, then in the entire month before XD

Not something negative, thanks for the feedback :3

I’m gonna sum up what i’ve read down there:
-Most people do not mind the future tech of IC.
-The idea of implementing weapons is about 50-50, a few disliking the idea, most stating weapons wouldn’t matter to them.
-1% of people came quite close to the secret project with their suggestions.

As such, I will probably put weapons on the low priority list. Next step will be CPUs, then our civil secret project. As well, i think about going back to my idea of customizeable plants and overall enhancements in the agriculture sector (as in industrial fertilizer and stuff).

It’s an idea I originally wanted to code as 4th mod, before i started with IC², consisting of an vatly improved version of my MeC-Alchemy system, containing numerous plants and the capability to cross-breed them for new effects and stuff… Gonna re-organize my plans for this stuff, though.

No one has commented yet because they are too busy scanning the other post comments for the 1%.

Careful how much you build this up alblaka, I am trying to keep myself from getting too excited lest I be disappointed if its not all its cracked up to be.

  2. Pacres says:

Alblaka, I can’t tell if you’re excited about the actual feature itself, or if you’re just really anxious to code it for the challenge =P

  3. Stefan says:

pls make sure the cpu is redpower compartible.. have more chat with her.
i dislike the idee of having 2 computer things a redpower one and a ic2 one how conflict.

    thx.
ps.: we could talk german.. but seems not liked if i write in.

    • Alblaka says:

Since 95% of all readers are prime English speakers, yes, English is preferred ^^

The CPUs will not be able to interact with each other and both base on entirely different concepts. Eloraam creates a bitwise-codeable “redstone”-CPU.
Albos is a block-based limited control-machine meant to automatize stuff.
Both will be quite different from each other.

  4. Nick says:

First of all, Great mod probably the best out there that has been made so far.

I like the idea of making more advanced pieces of machinery, the more advanced the better 😉 but the potion part is something i can live without since short term buffs is prettymuch crap in my opinion, i´d rather have permanent awsome stuff (like the jetpak ^^) instead.

Also it would be really nice if you could implement something like the recipebook mod for multiplayer use since there is nothing like that atm wich prettymuch sucks having to tab out and search for recipes online :/

Anyways, keep up the good work by making the best mod by far 🙂

  5. Shadowclaimer says:

This sounds awesome if the cross-breeding plants system ends up cool and all.

  6. nerfnerf122 says:

I love the idea!!! But, what will the CPUs be used for? A ALU? A automation for machines? Small redstone computers? PLZ TELL ME PLOX!!!! (:D)

  7. klopero says:

What I’m oing to say… I really enjoying this mod as well as Xkillerbees youtube series. I remeber when i first met the IC it was the most bugged version(6.50???). then Al added mass fabs, teleporters and field generators(if i recall correctly). That was my second try to play with mods. Now i never play without them. And if You Al look at previous things you added in next version of IC1 You’ll see that was more and more advanced stuff and people loved it. Keep doing your thing!

  8. Mikerman50 says:

I’m loving this, haven’t tried it personally due to update, was actually unaware of it till the live yogscast stream, i was dumbfounded, that’s possible?! omg wow. for me having this mod will save minecraft and ensure a long productive future of the game. personally i find the potions boring, and think the game took a wrong turn somewhere. keep up the great work.

  9. Kszaczek says:

Set Prio:0 to CPU, still waiting.. for eloram, for Alblaka ;[

  10. Withmyself64 says:

Alblaka plants are a great way to go! I think that farming and fishing (although there is that ridiculous fishing rod add-on) are the only aspects of Minecraft that have not been improved by Industrialcraft. Also try for the airbase! We need a reason to travel the world and get out of our bases that have everything we could want inside. I think that this is a real problem.

  11. Coelus says:

Replace the term potion with chemical and you open up a whole level of complexity to building an industrial complex. IRL you need chemicals in most industrial and modern mining operations. Even if it’s as simple as running water through a sluice to recover gold flakes, it’s still part of the process.

Also, I like the idea of two incompatible CPU systems. Allows you to have systems dedicated to machine operations and general functions.

  12. Withmyself64 says:

Alblaka, I really need your opinion on this. It would change the way Industrialcraft works forever, and make the difference between a server of advanced, utopian peace, and horrendous, eternal war. What if you could create custom machinery? The applications are endless! Custom machinery that you could create with tons of part and make ridiculously advanced things to evlove, or destroy, society. What do you think? I think that this is a worthy project of the Mighty Dragon Moderator wouldn’t you say? I know this would take a long time but it is worthwhile and Cubekind would be able to do so much with it.

    • Stuart says:

I think it would be too difficult to do this in-game. I mean, it is possible but the amount of time and effort it would take would mean that other stuff wouldn’t get done. The problem in creating customizable machines in-game would be that the machines would have a fixed amount of features that they could do (since you have to code each one of the behaviors). Like in a game like oblivion where you can enchant your own weapons, there are no features like “automatically pickpocket everyone within x radius” or “turn night into day”; in your idea it sounds like the equivalent freedom would be required in IC2. If you wanted this level of freedom, then you’d need to be looking at the code, and you’d essentially be making a new mod.

    • Alblaka says:

Howtheheck are you supposed to create something like custom machinery INGAME? That’s exactly what programming mods is.

      • Remuthra says:

It would probably be faster to tab out and code a new mod 😛

      • Withmyself64 says:

Alblaka, my idea would be tons of parts that can be combined in different ways to create new technologies. This would be like a much more advanced system similar to the potions. Like you could create a tower that was designed to terraform an area, then connect it to a device to amplify the radius. Or create a gun that can generate nether portals. Using specific algorithms about how certain parts would interact it makes for a realistic system for.

        • necans says:

Its pointless, cause someone has to code it all.You cant push a button and expect endless amounts of combination machines. There is a limit, and there is always limit, unless something is randomly generated, wich would be stupid.

          • Alblaka says:

Even random would be limited. Unless you code a real random, triggering random bits on your harddrive. That would be random and probably just crash anything.

  13. Clayton says:

If 1% came close to what you’re making, may I guess that the secret project is either robots, moveable fortresses/flying ships compatible with industrial craft machines, or some sort of elevator/vertical movement device for transporting stuff?

That aside, I think that 1 to 3 new weapons belonging to each of 3 tiers would add alot, and give the possibility of some really cool multiplayer, but that’s tbe absolute max you should add – no need to go overboard on the whole weapons thing. I’m honestly hoping we actually get one of the three things I guessed XD

  14. Webmilio says:

Could have been my suggestion, since I’m the only one (I think) who came up with the

*Alblaka slaps, kicks and puch Web in the face then shoots him at a really close range with the Mining Laser set to Scanner (approx what more than 6 beams…) and then to finish the weapon he uses the explosive mode, then he teleports Web to Noman’s Land.*

  15. Marc010 says:

I´m pretty sure the “secret projekt” will be awesome 😀

    PS:
Whats about 1.0 ? Any news about that ?
i hope you stick with 1.8
i don´t like the new pseudo RPG stuff 🙁

    • John says:

I agree, Minecraft 1 is a bit to weird for me. Please stick to 1.8 but feel free to create a Minecraft 1 version for the other people.

    • VoraciousPuma says:

I’m quite sure Forge would have to be updated first, and for that to happen MCP needs to be updated, so IC on 1.0 will probably be a while. This update is 1.8.1 for sure.

      • tjeulink says:

and before MCforge modloaderMP needs to update and before modloaderMP can update modloader must update and before modloader can update MCP must update, so yea 1.0.0 is not even close

        • Darwithe says:

Actually Risugami programs in decompiled code, and as such updates looong before MCP. Already updated in fact. But otherwise yeah.

  16. Bluehorazon says:

Actually I’m looking forward for the next version of IC². I’m just using a combination of BC, IC and Redpower and it really is a lot of fun. Not that i’m doing something useful, but I could spend days trying to get some mechanics to work like i do.

Today i tried to build a selfharvesting Sugar-Cane Farm, which fires a Generator over the use of Biofuel. Well I scrapped my design to burn the reeds directly^^. It’s mainly because a flaw of the generators. There just is no way to get the empty fuel cans out of the generator (or I just was too stupid^^).

So I really like everything but in some cases I would really wish that IC could give me some more options of automation. A gatherer which, if placed next to a Generator or a Machine collects empty fuel-tanks, buckets or batteries for refilling, and also collects full batteries out of generators or an energystorage.

IC has great potential but my simple suggestion would be to not only concentrate straight on new content, but to also improve the already existing experience of IC by just tuning things that don’t feel right.

I also noticed that the Ores from Redpower and IC (both have tin and copper) are seperated but produce the same Dust if thrown in the macerator. And there also is Silverdust. Does IC detect ores itself or is it programmed to accept the redpower-ores? If it is the later, would it mean, that the CPU and maybe other functions of IC are working well with redpower?

  17. GrandKaiser says:

Alblaka, if I had more money, I would donate it. But alas. I am broke.

    Finish ze mod! :3

    • Rgamer says:

I am in a different situation: I have a little to donate, but am 16, and thus have no means of donating via internet. So unless I somehow meet you in real life with cash on hand, I can’t donate to you. Sorry, Alblaka. (By the way, I’d probably donate around $20 US money. It’s what I can spare from savings for a good computer. Right now, I have to play video games on my little brother’s computer. It is annoying.)

  18. andrew says:

huh i hope we get some sort of fixed weapons (meaning imobile) or firearms to make copper more neccesary

  19. MorganIsCewl says:

So, this may be an inappropriate place to post this, but here goes:
Today, one of my friends was having a chat with me about your mod, and we managed to come onto the subject of AlbOS*. And we went from that to automated reactor control, and I was all like ‘If the reactor gets hot enough, then a system could detect this and shut the reactor off for a cooldown period,’ and he was like ‘Or, maybe you could go in the opposite direction and intentionally blow the reactor up?’ and then it went from that to shielding, and he eventually said that he would ‘put a nuclear reactor under my bed’.
Point is, would you actually be able to intentionally blow up a nuclear reactor, and use it in a self-destruct sequence via AlbOS*? And is there anything else that your CPU system can do , in relation to nuclear reactors? That is, that you wish to reveal at this time.

    * = Is it still AlbOS, or has the name changed again?

    • Alblaka says:

Albos is meant to have a generic heat-control unit, capable of detection fire and measuring reactor heat. You can use it to read the values and emit redstone accordingly, accordingly shutting down hot reactors.

However, you can already code a “Self-Destruct” reactor with basic redstone. Just use Lever > Inverter > Reactor, then fill the reactor with uranium, full.
Once you pull the lever, it will overheat and explode :3

      • Dragoone says:

so if i have an AlbOS computer inside my base and i wire it via a console to say a Tesla-coil i could make a “true” protected door…or even more incredibly(assuming this would be added) use it to fire an orbital cannon similar to a reflex gun(uses a series of orbiting mirrors to redirect the beam to any point on the planet) at someones base.

as for orbiting mirrors you’d only really need one, since minecraft is flat…already thinking of ideas to make it incredibly expensive….

hmm just remembered, i cant code at all…..

  20. DersitePhantom says:

FlowerChild is considering dropping Forge, do you have any thoughts on this?
He has been discussing it on his forum.

    • Alblaka says:

Didn’t knew about this. But given BTW modified loads of baseclasses, it’s probably not convenient for him to constantly request new basehooks of MCForge.

      • Bluehorazon says:

His reasons are not primarly based on Forge itself. He seems to like the idea of Forge but not they way it developed.

  21. St1L75 says:

Please don’t add weapons! It is not necessary, it is trash! LaserGun and all! Not more!

    • Bluehorazon says:

I guess it is all about time. If there is the option to include some weapons (I would like a stationary laser) without much work, it is fine.

But IndustrialCraft is… well it is about industry and i think putting the industry aside to create weapons would be wrong. But weapons that go along with the mod may actually improve it. I do not think that there are many weapons necessary. A cool rocket-launcher would be nice (or a grenade-launcher that arcs objects like if you throw them away, but a little bit stronger). A cheap Pistol for self defence, maybe an assault rifle and one or two fancy weapons (i would like a porkifier which turns hostile mobs into pigs by using energy… but well that would be kind of crazy).

What i really miss is already a source of light… it feels kind of weird to light a factory powered by a nuclear reactor with torches. I dont know if the engine allows it, but a light source with a greater range then a torch could be cool. I would also like to have a miners-helmet which lights up the direction you are facing.

Maybe i’m not the average industrialcrafter, but you could cheer me up with small improvements as well as with great impressive projects. Just mod something and most people will find a way to have fun with it.

      Oh and… i still like the porkifier^^.

      • Rgamer says:

Torches are light level 14, and the max is 15(Glowstone, pumpkins, and sunlight). Therefore, it is possible to have a light source more powerful than torches. However, I just use glowstone.

        • Bluehorazon says:

I don’t meant the actual light-level but the decay of illumination if you move away from the source. My torches have the same range as the glowstone, because they are at the wall and not the wall itself (at least it seems like that). So if i stand 15 Blocks away from the Glowstone i would only stay 14 Blocks away from a torch placed on the Stone, replacing Glowstone. So maybe i’m mistaken but the blocks next to the torches seems as bright as the torch itself. And of course, Glowstone does not exactly fit any better into an industrial setting then a torch. Unfortunatly i don’t think that you can do anything in this case. So it’s more flavour, i like the industrial setting, and a light bulb would fit better. You would be stupid to switch torches to energy-consuming light bulbs and i think notch screwed lighting so that you can’t make blue or red light, but just brightness. But at least I do also play for mere fun and light bulbs would add to that (to really represented light bulbs they should burn out whenever they definitly should not like when your brushing your teeth).
And i don’t know many items that represents industrial age and the invention of electricity as much as a light bulb (games like civilization even use light bulbs to symbolize every scientific advance). I don’t really care if light bulbs are just glowstone, but if it would be possible a light source with less decay would be nice.

But well, the light source just was an idea of something you could implement instead of weapons. Because the diskussion is more about that, then if weapons are good or bad. It’s all about alternatives, if you don’t do that then you can do something different in that time. So do I like weapons? Yes. Do I prefer weapons over other additions? No.
          One important note:
The ideas of the creator! Programming could be fun, sometimes because of challange sometimes because you are really excited about what you have in mind.

          • Remuthra says:

            erm… what about luminators?

Seems like the industrial light you would need if you really wanted that.

          • Rgamer says:

Luminators don’t work ATM, there is no legit way to get em for a reason.

          • Bluehorazon says:

Maybe luminators could be a method if working. Just to make that clear, i don’t want light bulbs. I would like to have a way to light up my factories in an industrial way. I’m not the modder. If he thinks this would benefit to an industrial feeling, he will implement hit how he seems fitting.

If i suggest something i try to speak about what i want to to do in minecraft, and not about special methods to optain it (although i may suggest them also).

So i would like some flavor. Also i noticed that IC does not have steel. Again i do not want steel, but i would like some materials to build thinks. The whole problem is, that the machines don’t always fit in buildings created with vanilla-blocks.

This isn’t really about function, but feeling. And maybe such things are easier to do then some really hard projects like a CPU or Robot-colonies. So you could do some things like that in between.

          • AnnaMayBelle says:

I agree with a lot of points you bring up. I’d love to see luminators become a priority, as well as other modern and industrial looking construction materials… Right now, the only thing that “feels right” to me is using brick, and while clay has become more plentiful in 1.8.1, it’s still difficult to produce in mass quantities. “Vanity blocks” like industrial building materials wouldn’t be as difficult to code as a lot of other projects, and would add a lot of variety to the game.

          • Alblaka says:

            Try Construction Foam?

          • AnnaMayBelle says:

Construction Foam is great, but I’m just a big fan of variety. ^^

  22. Ipeleng Motsatsi says:

come on people. ic2 is boring with out some one to play with. so weapon is great buy Alblaka pls just get the cpu working and updated then have a separate download for weapons.

  23. builderchad says:

Best mod I play, thanks a lot! Can’t wait to see the secret project.

I would really like to see nuclear waste being added to the mod. It would slowly injure the player if near it – say within 15 blocks (I dont know if that is possible…) or carrying it. An anti-radiation suit could allow the player to carry it safely (always equipped, otherwise it harms the player if its somewhere else in their inventory). Reactors would eventually produce it after a certain amount of time – both the uranium and the coolant. A special chest (a metal one) could be crafted to temporarily store the waste until the player could deal with it. The temporary chest would eventually become contaminated as well if left with waste inside it for too long. It would be up to the player to find a place to dump the waste out of harms way.

    Cheers!

    • Rgamer says:

That really wouldn’t change much…. All that would happen is people would put a lava source up next to their reactors, and throw the waste into it as soon as it formed, possibly even creating automated systems for that.

  24. Paweł Żuk says:

Frankly, while I am excited about the secret project and all, the one thing I am waiting for the most is some sort of modern-looking light source.

Not even necessarily luminators, just something that acts like a light source but isn’t a torch/pumpkin/magical stone from Hell 😀

  25. Doomcat says:

Weapons ^.^ totally want weapons. anyway, your talking about plant and plant crossbreeding in the post, do you mean to add this to the new brewing and potion system? cause that would be awesome.

  26. Mukrakiish says:

One thing I can’t help but wonder, is if you are planning on entertaining the thought of making it a Spout Addon compatible to allow for Bukkit IC servers (and possibly allowing for incredible GUI options).

Now that Spout has been opening up the doors via Addons + custom items/code/blocks with no interference, lots of people are praying the 3 mega tech mods will want to explore the idea. (3 big being IC, BC and RP)

    • Alblaka says:

      There’s already a craftbukkit-version of IC².
I remember this sprout thingy being a valid alternative though. Currently don’t have much time to think about porting IC² to a new base platform, though.

  27. Clearshot says:

hm CPU’s, get to make computers inside minecraft, play minecraft within minecraft! hmm at least i might get a better FPS and i could have a 500k core super computer 😛

But realistically what will/could the CPU’s be able to do? im having guesses of automate certain processes, like allow current to flow every x seconds for x seconds or something like that, well ticks not seconds

  28. DancingShadow says:

Is it possible to split the mod into two parts? I know that there are a lot of farming / plant mods out there, plus TBH I’m not sure if I’m interested in the farming side of things (not having seen it and all 😉 ) That isn’t to say I won’t look at it when it comes out and if it’s interesting I’d definitely install it. I just like having the option to cut bits out of mods, like buildcraft or Redpower, to save block IDs. Mechanical & Farming / Crops seems like a good split point.
